I have been teaching for twenty years, primarily in special school settings in the Dunstable area.
I have experience of teaching Year 7 to Year 14 covering all curriculum areas. I was appointed Joint Maths Lead and focused on Maths especially in KS3 and KS4. In September 2014, I worked collaboratively to establish a post 16 provision and was appointed the position of Head of KS5. During this time, I also studied for a Master of Arts in Education (Special Education Needs) which I completed in July 2021. After a successful 10-year period of managing KS5 with a maximum of 65 students I was promoted to Assistant Head of Upper School in 2024. I continued in this role until January 2026.
I have been teaching for twenty years and have experience of working in mainstream and special needs schools in Birmingham and Dunstable.
In my first teaching post, I worked in a school with a Hearing Resource Base and students with moderate to severe hearing impairment, developing my understanding of inclusive teaching. Within my second year of teaching I was successful in securing the first of many leadership roles (KS1 Lead and EYFS Lead) with the opportunity to participate in the Creative Partnerships Programme. This was the UK government's flagship creative learning programme to design a personalised curriculum for our school.
In my next teaching role, I was able to apply my skills in a different context, secondary special education. I worked as part of the Leadership Team with responsibility for curriculum and assessment in key stages 3, 4 and 5 developing my understanding of statutory assessments as well as vocational studies. Since moving to Dunstable in 2019, I have been teaching students in a post 16 provision in a local special school. It has been an opportunity to teach and assess using the Pearson Functional Skills Framework, creating personalised vocational programmes of study as well as driving improvements as an English Leader.
"Teaching is a privilege, an opportunity that excites and motivates us to continually improve our practice. It is an opportunity to appreciate the individual contributions of all individuals in our community, celebrate their success, show compassion, promote a life-long love of learning and most importantly, make a positive contribution to society."
